Back to School Letter to Families

Dear Linden Tree Families,
I am writing to you today with immense joy and excitement to introduce myself as your new principal. It is an honor to join this special community, and I am thrilled to begin this journey with all of you.
On a personal note, I am a proud mother of two wonderful daughters, ages five and seventeen. As a parent, I understand firsthand the hopes and dreams you have for your child(ren) — the hope that they will grow into successful individuals who make a meaningful impact in this world. I am also a trained and licensed clinical social worker, a background which has given me a deep understanding of social-emotional development, the importance of creating a safe and supportive school environment, and understanding that learning must be viewed as an individualized and holistic process for every child. My ultimate belief is that every child deserves access to the kind of education that opens doors and allows them a seat at any table they choose.
My journey into education began with a deeply personal understanding of how traditional schooling that lacked innovation and a progressive approach to teaching and learning often fails to serve children with diverse learning needs. This led me to start my career as a school social worker, where I learned the importance of supporting children and their families inclusively. My goal was always to ensure that a child’s academic experience was one filled with joy and excitement of learning, and where intellectual risk-taking and asking critical questions are celebrated. I believe that a quality education is one that develops every child into a thriving reader and writer who feels safe to embrace active learning and intellectual independence.
This path eventually led me to a borough-level role, supporting schools across the Bronx with crisis management, implementing tiered systems of support, and ensuring all children had access to high-quality, rigorous teaching that respected how they learned. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for leadership and a desire to be even closer to children and families on their academic journeys.
From there, I had the privilege of joining the remarkable District 11 team, led by Superintendent Vaughan and Deputy Superintendent Perez. As a Student Services Manager under their innovative and impact-driven leadership, I supported all 44 District schools with everything from crisis support and social-emotional programming to individualized student and family support, as well as providing teachers with classroom management training and implementation. The experience was invaluable, but I missed the direct, daily connection with students and families. That is what has brought me here, to Linden Tree.
In my time with District 11, I have had the opportunity to learn about this truly special community. Linden Tree is a place of diverse cultures, ingenuity, warmth, and promise. While the work ahead of us to ensure every child becomes a thriving reader and writer, I know that greatness is right around the corner. I have seen firsthand the incredible commitment of both the students and families here at Linden Tree.
I will be holding one-on-one appointments on August 20th and 21st from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to meet with you and your family. If you'd like to schedule a time to meet, please send me an email directly at aresnikoff@schools.nyc.gov. I am eager to get to know each and every one of you.
As your new principal, I am committed to walking alongside you as we achieve new heights. Together, we will support all of our children in discovering their love of learning, gaining increased access to rigorous and culturally relevant instruction, and developing into the world leaders they will be.
My door is always open to you. Whether you need support, have questions, need reassurance, or just want to share ideas on how we can make Lindentree a school that leads the way here in District 11, please know you are welcome.
With warmth and excitement,
Anna Resnikoff, LCSW Principal, I.A.
